John McGovarin is a Melbourne-based freelance editor who loves to make visually progressive, rhythmically driven work in both commercial and film worlds.

He's worked for major national brands including Tourism Australia and Hahn Brewing in Australia and Sportchek, Canadian Tire and Rogers in Canada.

His film work includes the comedy/horror short Halfway Haunted, which premiered at Hollyshorts Film Festival, and documentary short Becoming Aurelio, both of which were selected for the prestigious Santa Fe International Film Festival.

John a meticulous approach to selects and an emotional attentiveness that shapes each project from the inside out.

His work has been recognised with two Australian Screen Editors Ellie Award nominations (Best Commercial Editing and Best Music Video Editing), and two consecutive PADC Editor of the Year honours in 2021 and 2022, alongside multiple PADC Skulls for Best Editing.

A dual Dutch/Canadian citizen, European Union passport holder and Australian Permanent Resident, he is available for collaboration worldwide.
